February 2016: Four months and 4,300 miles after I bought my 6, I discovered the driver’s seat upholstery was peeling and flaking.

Last night, I discovered this:

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The seat bottom has been reupholstered through warranty once already and here it is doing the same thing again. Annoying.

My preferred dealer is 40 miles away, so for time and convenience sake, I’ll probably go to the local (arguably inept) dealer. The bumper-to-bumper warranty will be up this October (for time, not mileage).

Needless to say, I’m pretty disappointed. I think it’s safe to say the “leatherette” (vinyl) seats in the Mazda6 don’t hold up that well, at least not in my case.

Do you have seat heaters? It almost looks like the vinyl is heat damaged.

Nope. Heated seats is the one feature my car doesn’t have that I wish it did.

I service a Mazda dealer and have never seen this happen, odd. How are yu caring for the material? Using any cleaners/conditioners?

Ridiculous. the whole point of leatherette is that it doesn’t wear like this.

I haven’t. I have wiped them with a damp cloth but that’s it.

If they’re going to recover them again anyway, I wonder if you can insist they use MB-Tex.

Is there any way to get it replaced with non preforated material?

If you sit in your seat and stick your hand under your ass where this crease is, is there anything on your pants that might rub on it? Zippers or something for a back pocket? Still seems super touchy if it’s done in a few months tho.

When I used to work for Mazda we saw seat trims wearing out, foam breaking down, frames cracking..... we’d just blame larger Americans, but I think Mazda just sucks at making seats.

I called the Evansville Mazda dealer and they said that since they’ve already fixed the seat once, they’re not likely to fix it again. She is going to call her warranty admin and see but she said they likely will deny the warranty claim for the same problem over again. So I have a 2.5 year old car with a peeling seat. My old Pontiac Grand Am was 8-years-old when I got it and 10-years-old when I sold it and its leather was fine. I’m annoyed.
